Sarah Fowlis Sarah has sixteen years of acute/community renal experience. She started initially as a band 2 healthcare assistant, working her way up to a band 3 healthcare assistant. Sarah then went on to complete her nurse training and returned to the renal unit as a band 5 registered nurse. She was then lucky enough to become a band 6 ward sister, more recently successfully obtaining the band 7 Senior Renal Community CNS role. In her role as a clinical nurse specialist, it has enabled her to work autonomously enabling patients to be able to stay at home and to manage their home therapy independently. This role has enabled her to work more closely with the renal consultants in evaluating the care of their patients. Sarah regularly attends advanced kidney care clinics along with a Nephrologist to give pre- dialysis care and education to their patients. This has enabled her to improve her physical examination skills and become competent in running and setting up PD and Hep B nurse led clinics. Whilst in this role she has been lucky enough to attend UK Kidney week in Bournemouth, where alongside a colleague they were asked to present their abstract “Sustainability of the U drain within APD”. Her aim is to turn this presentation into an article and get it accepted and published. Sarah looks forward to being a co- lead on the Advanced Kidney Care Community of Practice, she feels that she can bring her 16 years of varying knowledge and skills to this steering group. |
Meagan Stoby-Fields
Meagan is a Clinical Nurse Specialist with over 25 years’ experience in Nephrology, leading the Advanced Kidney Care Service in East London supporting >900 patients with Stage 4–5 CKD. Her role spans complex decision-making around peritoneal and haemodialysis, transplantation, and conservative management.
As Co-Lead of the National AKC Community of Practice, Meagan connects AKC teams across the UK to reduce variation in pre-dialysis care and champion shared decision-making and peer support, in partnership with the London Kidney Network and Kidney Care UK. She is a passionate advocate for lived experience, promoting peer support to help patients navigate what lies ahead. In the words of one patient: “It is nice to be able to talk to someone who gets it and feel a million times better in my head.”
She is also committed to building a collaborative, practice-led community where clinicians can learn from each other and accelerate improvements for people living with AKC.
An Independent Nurse Prescriber, Meagan specialises in managing complex symptom burden in advanced CKD, with a focus on improving quality of life as kidney function declines. She runs pre-dialysis clinics, group education seminars, and coordinates vascular access referrals, with a strong emphasis on early preparation and shared decision-making.
Meagan also collaborates with the ANN UK Education Committee, mentors junior renal nurses into AKC roles, and recently co-led a pilot evaluating health literacy in AKC clinics with consultant colleagues.
Outside of clinical work, Meagan sings in her church choir, has performed with the Black Living Donor Choir, and takes part in step challenges for Kidney Care and Research, Diabetes UK, and Cancer charities.
