The Home Therapies Community of Practice (CoP) brings together nurses and practitioners working in home haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis across the UK.

This national network is designed to support nurses in developing and expanding home dialysis services, sharing best practice, and creating a collaborative environment for professional growth and innovation.

By joining this community, members can connect with peers, contribute to national projects, and play a key role in shaping the future of home-based renal therapies.


🎯 About the Community

The Home Therapies CoP provides a platform for nurses involved in home dialysis to collaborate, share experience, and collectively identify solutions to common challenges in the delivery of care.

It offers education, networking opportunities, and professional support for all renal nurses with an interest in home haemodialysis (HHD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD).

🎯 Aims and Objectives

The Home Therapies Community of Practice is committed to:

  • 📚 Identifying, developing, and sharing best practice in home dialysis care

  • đź§­ Providing recommendations to renal units to encourage a standardised approach to supporting patients who dialyse at home

  • 🌙 Developing national guidance for nocturnal home haemodialysis

  • 🤝 Collaborating with the British Renal Society (BRS) to ensure home dialysis is included in the national renal workforce plan

  • đź’¬ Supporting education and peer learning to strengthen workforce skills and confidence in home therapies


đź’ˇ Active Projects

The Home Therapies CoP is engaged in a number of national projects aimed at advancing the quality and sustainability of home dialysis services:

  • âś… Nocturnal Home Haemodialysis Recommendations:
    The group has produced detailed recommendations for nocturnal home haemodialysis — available in the Resourcessection.

  • âś… Workforce Planning for Home Dialysis:
    The CoP is currently undertaking a project exploring workforce planning needs for home haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. This includes a national survey of the home dialysis workforce.

  • âś… Acuity Tool Development:
    Findings from the workforce survey will be used to create an acuity tool to assist with workforce planning and service design for both established and emerging home dialysis programmes.
