Home Dialysis Special Interest Group

Membership – who will benefit from membership of Home Dialysis SIG

The establishment of a special interest group for home dialysis is aimed at nurses working in home haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis to create a network and forum for nurses to develop and grow a home dialysis service.

Overall aims and objectives
  • To identify, develop and clarify what is best practice in Home Dialysis
  • To provide recommendations for renal units to encourage a standard approach to facilitating utilisation of dialysis in the home
  • To create recommendations for nocturnal home haemodialysis
  • To work alongside BRS to develop the renal workforce plan to include home dialysis.

Active Projects:  We have produced recommendations for nocturnal home haemodialysis, see resources link.

We are currently looking at workforce planning for home dialysis, including home haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. The group aims to undertake a survey of the home dialysis workforce

The findings from this survey will be used to develop an acuity tool that can assist with work force planning in established and new Home Dialysis services
